St Alvère in the Périgord :
the first truffle market
in France to have gone
on-line !

Version Française

The majority of the Poulvère and Barses 86-hectare vineyard (60% of which falls into the Monbazillac A.O.C.) is situated at the foot of the 16th century Château de Monbazillac, and covers the gentle slopes leading down towards Bergerac and the Dordogne valley on chalk-clay soil.
Château Poulvère was
once a dependency of the Château de Monbazillac and dates from the same period (the 16th century). A parcel of vines called « baccalante » remind us of the presence of former owners of the Château de Monbazillac, the Baccalants.

Since the 1st of January 1994, the Domaine de Grangettes and the Domaine de la Haute Brie and du Caillou, previously run by Jean Borderie, have also formed part of the estate making it one of the largest in the Bergerac region. The Poulvère and Barses vineyard is, nonetheless, still run as a family business on a very human scale. It offers its customers the full range of « Périgord’s Colours ».
