The
clay-limestone hillsides of Monbazillac in the south of the
Dordogne share with the neighbouring hillsides of Colombier,
Rouffignac de Sigoulès, St Laurent des Vignes and Pomport, the
good fortune and honour of producing the fine, sweet, perfumed
and heady wine known throughout the world as MONBAZILLAC.
La Barde Vineyard covers
55 hectares in Monbazillac - for the Château de Rauly -
and at Rouffignac de Sigoulès
for the Château Les Cailloux.
Château Rauly is situated on a north-facing, clay hillside.
Château Les Cailloux is perched on the southern plateau of the
appellation on a clay-limestone soil.
The estate produces wines which fall under five different
Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée :
• Monbazillac
• Bergerac Red
• Côtes de Bergerac Sweet (Moelleux)
• Bergerac Rosé
• Bergerac Dry White
Vineyard working methods are traditional and, as of several
years ago, environmentally friendly. |
