A wine-producing region through history
River and sea traffic played an important role in the development of the Bergerac region vineyards as early as the Middle Ages. The wines produced in this region were a favourite with English and Dutch buyers and so much so that at the beginning of the 18 th century half of the total production was intended for exportation. The Bergerac wines enjoyed an appellation of origin in 1936, the very first year this classification system was created.

Our Vineyard
The château Haut-Lamouthe is located on the left bank of the Dordogne river, just four miles south-west from Bergerac. Vines have always been grown on this family estate.
In 1986. two brothers, Christian and Michel, decided to devote themselves to vine-growing. They replanted new vine stocks and purchased new plots. In 1997. the third brother joined the team. Two years later they bought the equipment necessary for making their own wines. They invested in vine-making equipment to set up their own winery instead of selling their grapes to the local cooperative. Since 2001 they have been using environment-friendly growing methods.
The vineyard (36 acres) is situated on a clayey-gravely ground in the Bergerac appellation area. Twenty acres are dedicated to producing red and rosé Bergerac.


The château Haut-Lamouthe also produces prunes and apples (with direct sale to individual buyers who pick their own apples in the orchard)
Make it a special day. Come and pick your own apples in september and buy direct from the producer at the lowest price (0.7 € a kilo). Bring your own bags!
You may also buy half-baked prunes produced on the estate.
