Château de
la Gaubertie (private
property), built in the 15th century was entirely renovated in
the early 18th century. A battlemented parapet runs the length
of the château’s main body which is flanked by two towers -
one round, one square. A small, 16th century chapel stands a
short distance from the château.
The village spring,
wrote the Abby of Brugière,is remarkable and precious for
the abundance and purity of its water. It is claimed that its
waters cure colic. The spring is especially visited by people
of the surrounding parishes on 11th November.
St Martin’s Church
St Martin’s
Church - the first
mention of which dates back to 1197 - was built on the site of a
Benedictine priory, St Jacques de la Vergne which was affiliated
to Grande-Sauve Abbey.
According to the Abby of Brugière, the church had three bells
before the Revolution, and the vault of the central nave dates
back to the 16th century.
All traces of the original church have, however, disappeared in
the wake of successive alterations.
Events Village Fête in July.
St Martin’s Fête at the end of November.
