The town of Mescoules is located in the Sigoulès district in Dordogne.
It is a member of the Coteaux de Sigoulès Community of Communes, and that of the Greater Bergerac Area.
It has 162* inhabitants on a surface area of 485 hectares.

The town’s name in Occitan is Mescola. The etymology is obscure, maybe closer to the Occitan mescola (dragonfly, and in the figurative sense “metal trimming”).
