Beaumont
du Périgord is the chief town of the canton;
its economy is agriculture-based (dairy and beef cows, ducks,
plums, strawberries, walnuts, tobacco) and, consequently, it
has a very healthy artisanal food-produce industry.
Beaumont’s magnificent and varied architecture has encouraged
a thriving local building industry.
Beaumont has a
Community-Assistance Centre, a retirement home (with a
capacity of 82 persons including up to 40 requiring medical
assistance), two doctors, a chemist and district nurses etc.
Countryside tourism is flourishing thanks, in part, to the
discovery of archaeological and architectural sites (100km of
hiking trails link the canton’s villages via fountains,
châteaux, grottoes etc.)
There are organised visits to foie gras farms and polycultural
farms. A large selection of gîtes gives holiday-makers an
opportunity to meet the local population.
