Alles sur
Dordogne’s 328
inhabitants share the commune’s 851 hectares of land which is
mainly situated in the wide plains generously created by
Limeuil’s ‘cingle’, or meander, in the river. Houses and farms
are scattered over the whole of the commune’s territory in an
area where farming is of immense economic importance.
Taking the road
to Bergerac from Le Buisson de Cadouin you need to turn right
to get to the village of Alles sur Dordogne which is a little
bit off the main Bergerac-Sarlat axe. It is, however, crossed
by the departmental road 2 which was originally built to link
Cadouin and Paunat. From Cadouin to Alles, all is well but a
problem arises on reaching the Dordogne River; the original
ferry has long since stopped operating but no bridge has ever
been built in its stead so the D2 stops on the left bank of
the river and picks up again on the right bank but with no way
of joining the two !
Thanks to another road, the D51 which links Alles with
Limeuil, the two communes have strong ties.
The commune of Alles sur Dordogne
also maintains a special relationship with the commune of
Obenheim in Alsace.
Exchanges are organised every two years and, in February of each
year, the inhabitants of Alles enjoy a choucroute courtesy of
their friends in Alsace.
