Etymologically
‘Lamonzie’ derives from the vulgar reference
to a local monastery as « du pays monges ».
Foundations which may have belonged to this
monastery were uncovered during an
archaeological dig.
Lamonzie has
preserved its authentic character and its
untouched, slightly remote air is only
increased by the wooded countryside which
surrounds it.
What
to See
Montastruc Castle, about 200m north of the
village, was one of the fiefs of the Abzac de
la Douze family in the fourteenth century. It
was destroyed in 1438 and rebuilt in 1471 on
condition that Bertrand d’Abzac’s widow submit
to royal authority. An interesting building,
it is privately owned. |
