The
Bergerac-Cahors road cuts through the
commune of Baneuil which includes the
hamlets of
Fontenille and Bailleries.
Palaeolithic and Neolithic sarcophagi and a
1.45m high, sandstone dolmen bear witness to
a long ago past.
Legend has it that this megalithic served as
the gravestone for an english general killed
during the Wars of Religion.
What to see in
the commune: the domed, twelfth-century
parish church with a Romanesque façade and
wall-belfry. The nave opens onto a fortified
choir and the triumphal arch is decorated
with sculptured capitals.
Also worth visiting: the dolmen and the
castle.
