St
Jean-Baptiste church
served as the headquarters of a preceptory
of the Knights Hospitallers; it suffered
severe damage over the ages and the
semi-circular apse no longer survives. The
chancel and nave still exist although minus
their original vaulting.
The west façade is influenced by the
Saintonge style of architecture: blind
arches frame the portal which is decorated
by four pointed archivolts supported by
columns with sculptured capitals (monsters,
frightened doves drinking from a chalice,
broken staffs).
The
vaulted chancel
has a dome and pendentives which have been
substantially renovated.
