Origins
The church was built in the twelfth century.
What
to See
The church is composed of a wall-belfry; a
short, barrel-vaulted nave; a domed ‘false’
transept and a half-domed, semi-circular
apse flanked by absidoles. The capitals and
modillions provide beautiful examples of
Romanesque sculpture.
A few meters
from the church is the ‘Prior’s House’ which
was probably built at the beginning of the
fourteenth century as the residence of the
St-Avit-Seigneur priors. It is a rectangular
building with two stories on its west side
and three on its east; both gables have
magnificent windows.
