The path
following the chateau de Mathécoulon leads
to the delightful, Romanesque church of
Montpeyroux. The apse is one of the most
elegant of the area with its nine round
arches and cornice with sculptured
modillions.
The influence of
Saintongeais Romanesque architecture is
apparent in the apse and on the west façade
where the portal is framed by blind arches.
The church has a short, pointed,
barrel-vaulted nave, a domed pre-chancel, a
recessed choir and a semi-circular apse. |
