The church of
Lamonzie Montastruc’s former priory dates
from the twelfth century and its many
renovations have, sadly, not all been for
the good.
It is composed
of a rectangular chancel, a straight chevet
and a nave with no aisles and shallow
transepts. The dome of the crossing is
supported by four pillars whose interior
angles are flat - unusual, but, judging by
the abacuses which adorn the pillars,
extremely old.
The flattened
dome has, in quite recent years, been poorly
restored and only the pendentives are
original. |
