The lock steps
are
some of the most magnificent of their kind
in France.
The two series of each of the three locks
cover a
distance of
289m and a gradual depth of 22m
and are separated by magnificent crossing
tanks. Neither of the lock houses has
undergone the slightest alteration since
being built.
A dry dock,
situated above the last lock, provided the
only place where the flat bottom of a gabare
could be repaired independently of tidal
rhythms.
A ‘discovery’ footpath ensures that the whole site can be
explored at leisure.
It includes :
• The lock steps.
• The dry dock.
• The hydroelectric plant.
• The dam crossing.
• The fish lift built in 1989 and equipped
with an observation window.
