Xavier G.ARNO, Painter

Background
Born in Reims in 1970, I arrived with my family in the Périgord in the 1980's. I met a painter-sculptor Yves Le Large, who passed on to me his passion for drawing and painting. By going together to exhibitions for example in the Cloisters at Reims or in Epinal I was initiated into an appreciation of art in general, but when it comes to technique I am self-taught and never lack inspiration.

Activity
Creation of individual works. I work on large, sometimes very large, canvases. Working on different foundations such as stretched canvas, wood or plaster I paint with acrylics and create projects to order.

Philosophy
Using mixed media I create canvases of rich surface texture and colour, full of emotion. My work asks questions and never leaves people indifferent.

I favour layering in my work and use mortar and pigments to this effect. These assemblages of materials are first brought together on the canvas before the work is enlivened by the addition of acrylic paint. The whole process is long but the energy and life-force behind every piece is what makes each canvas unique and sensitive.
