Jonathan Hacherel, Ceramist

Background
I have worked as a potter or ceramist for 15 years. I trained at Saint-Victor les Oules Ceramics School near Uzes in the Gard. I worked in various pottery studios as a thrower and an enameller and acquired the skills of the trade in a professional capacity, surrounded by artisans from whom I learnt an immense amount. I started producing Raku, faience, earthenware and porcelain in kilns I built myself in the Drôme and the Var. I recently set up my studio in Le Fleix, Dordogne, installing it in a working brick factory (Briqueterie Durand) and using local clay.

Activities
I make contemporary ceramic pieces, I sculpt and I throw. I also produce finials for heritage sites and give lessons.

Philosophy
Clay in all its states… I seek to understand a beautiful material and to transform it. I want to know its techniques, its recipes which all have a reason and a role to play…
