Derzou, Sculptor

RESEARCH & DETERMINATION: Following a serious accident, I had to abandon dance and reconsider my future.
Self-taught: sculpture was for me a means of reconstruction and, over and above this, a means of expression. Curiosity and a thirst for learning, for creation and for researching different artistic techniques associated with the love of raw materials, led me as early as 1993 to sculpt stone (limestone, soapstone, alabaster) thereby concretising my ideas.
Always looking for space, volume, relief and light, in 1998 I discovered glass at the Lucas de Nehou School in Paris and, from my three-year course there, developed a passion for stained glass.
I have won medals and prizes for my work during my many exhibitions (Paris, the provinces, Japan).

The ATELIER D.Z ' ARTS is both a gallery and a studio. A rigid adherence to rules is banished; everything is permitted. I only create original pieces but can adapt to the requirements of a commissioned piece of sculpture or stained glass. Stained-glass window corners, images, sculptures…
I am happy to share my personal universe and its poetic expression with visitors.

BRINGING A RAW MATERIAL TO LIFET: Over the years my passion for stone has remained intact; a desire to transform it, to dominate - but not force - it, to give it life, to become one with it. I manipulate, assemble, mix, fusion volumes and materials (stone, wood, copper, glass and other objects) to create original works.
I love seeing the harmony and union of materials mixed together, seeing glass resist the power of rock, resin resist wood, copper resist glass thereby creating a harmonious blend of contrasting materials respectful of their mixed origins.
