Daphné Lambrechts, Creations in Cardboard

Background:
A speech therapist by training, I worked for several years with mentally handicapped adults in Belgium, where I come from. Then, a change of direction for a few years, doing claims management in the insurance industry. My whole family and I left Belgium in 2008 to live in the Dordogne. During this time, I tried several kinds of handicrafts during my free time but my encounter with cardboard changed everything! I started to work with cardboard for pleasure, to make gifts, for a few exhibitions. Then, the opportunity to take over a boutique was offered to me. With the encouragement of my relatives, I abandoned my job in the insurance industry, and I achieved my dream: I am self-employed and my studio-boutique opened its doors in July 2011.

Activity:
I create primarily decorative and/or utilitarian objects (boxes, mirrors, small furniture, clocks, frames, lamps) for adults and children. I also do custom orders for more specific themes or uses. I use found cardboard and new cardboard.

Philosophy:
Cardboard keeps its game well hidden: you think it is fragile, but in fact it is very strong, which makes it possible to obtain very sturdy objects that remain light. You see it as brown or gray, a bit bland, in fact, there is a multitude of different shades and very varied corrugations, which allow a thousand and one creations from a packaging "good for waste collection "... With cardboard, there is material to discover!
