Once collected the black bin bags are centralised at the Cussac Local
Refuse Collection Centre at Le Buisson de Cadouin.
They are there stocked in waterproof skips and transported to the
Milhac d’Auberoche CSDU ( Centre de Stockage des Déchets Ultimes - the
final resting place for the refuse) near St Pierre de Chignac. Here
the refuse is buried in conditions which rigorously follow the strict
guidelines laid down for the burial of household waste (airtight
containers, recuperation of dripping water, leaching treatment).
Recyclable Refuse
During collection the yellow bags are checked by SMICTOM personnel.
They are centralised at the Cussac Local Refuse Collection Centre and
then stocked in skips and transported to Marcillac St Quentin Sorting
Centre near Sarlat.
In the sorting centre, undesirable matter (or sorting errors) is
removed and the remaining refuse is separated into categories : paper,
cardboard, steel, aluminium, plastic (bottles). Packaging material is
sent to recycling factories where it is given a new lease of life,
transformed into packaging material again or into a variety of objects
produced from recycled matter, for example :
• Paper is turned back into paper.
• Plastic bottles can be transformed into fleece material or piping.
• Tins are made into kitchen utensils such as cork screws.
