This community is made of 10 communes, bringing together 8010 inhabitants: Bonneville and Saint-Avit de Fumadières, Fougueyrolles, Lamothe-Montravel, Montazeau, Montcaret, Nastringues, Saint-Antoine de Breuilh, Saint-Seurin de Prats, Saint-Vivien and Vélines.

Created in July 2005 through the will and work of the local councillors, the Montaigne-en-Montravel Community of Communes is a new space for projects, a place for discussions and prospectives to build a more unified and more prosperous region.

The Community of Communes is a publicly-owned inter-communal co-operation establishment (établissement public de coopération intercommunale or EPCI in French), bringing together several communes, all in one area, and without an enclave. Its goal is to associate communes within a context of solidarity in order to work out a joint project for space planning and development.
In this perspective, the communes transfer their scope of activities to the EPCI, which then fulfils them for and on behalf of the municipalities. This union allows the development of joint projects that could not be carried out by isolated communes on their own. In fact, coming together can mobilize more important means and thus implement projects that affect the whole of its population.
