Eymet and the Surrounding Area
Eymet welcomes with open arms the gourmet, the nature-lover and the amateur historian alike. The gentle countryside makes for perfect walks and the rich and varied heritage it is home to, for perfect visits. The bastide of Eymet is the economic centre of the area with a multitude of shops, restaurants, sporting, cultural and leisure facilities, not to mention a campsite idyllically situated between the chateau and the river.

The Dropt valley traces its path from the cèpe-rich Périgord to the Garonne River over 130km away, meandering through a beautiful countryside which is dotted with medieval, fortified towns, Romanesque churches and chapels, and many castles.

Half-way along the gentle river, not far from Lauzun, Duras and Monbazillac, the ‘Pays’ of Eymet includes the canton’s eleven communes and those of the bordering Lot-et-Garonne département.

The Bastide of Eymet

The medieval town of Eymet nestles in a crook of the River Dropt on a site occupied since prehistoric times. It was founded in 1270 by Alphonse de Poitiers and stands as a powerful testament to a turbulent past while, socially and economically, looking resolutely ahead to the future.
