The founding
president and the president of Bergerac Musique Espérance with
the Belorussian minister of culture
Established in
1982 by the Argentine pianist, Miguel-Angel Estrella,
Musique - Espérance
(Music - Hope) is an international humanitarian musical
organisation given N.G.O. status by UNESCO in 1997. The Bergerac
chapter of Musique - Espérance belongs to the Musique -
Espérance International Federation (F.M.I.E.).
The aims and beliefs of the organisation can be summed up in a
single sentence : to build and promote peace through cultural
means which allow it to take root and grow.
The organisation’s aims are based on
two main cultural principles :
• One, music, by its interactive nature, promotes peace through
its universal appeal.
• Two, music, by the sense of solidarity it encourages, walks
hand in hand with peace, and can help establish an environment
in which conflict and tension can be lessened.
Music testifies to the
increasingly important role played by cultural issues
in social cohesion and in building a world where discussion can
replace violence.
