The Domaine de
Perreau is situated in
the heart of the Montravel vineyards.
The Montravel AOC listing (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée)
was awarded in 1936 and extends over 14 communes.
The climate is temperate and south, south-west facing
vineyards allow the grapes to reach the maturity necessary in
the production of great wines. Montaigne, the famous
philosopher and author of the « Essays », was born in 1533 in
the château which bears his name and was himself a wine
producer. He contributed in no small way to Montravel’s fame.
Past and present, tradition and modernity sit side by side.
Over four generations the Reynou family has successfully
combined tradition with the progress of the particular era.
One third of
Jean-Yves Reynou’s
18-hectare vineyard has a chalky-clay soil while the remainder
combines chalk, clay and flint.
The majority of the vineyard is planted with: Cabernet
Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot Noir, Cot and Malbec.
The grape varieties which make up the dry white wine, however,
include Sémillon, Muscadelle and, principally, Sauvignon.
M. Reynou’s pride and joy is the hectare of vines which
produce his liquoreux (sweet white) wine.
