At our place, we give birth to and raise the wine with as much
love as we give a child. And we have four of them! |
|
Who Are We?
Jean-Philippe and Brigitte SOULIER,
owners of Château La Robertie, a 16 hectare vineyard situated in
the Bergerac, Côtes de Bergerac and Monbazillac appellations.
The vineyard has 7.50 hectares planted with red grapes and 8.50
hectares with white.
In 1999 we moved to this property whose origins go back to 1736.
Though poorly run during recent years, the vineyard has two
major assets: the soil, and the age of the vines. |
 |
Coming from a
different “world”, we deliberately chose this occupation,
quickly realising that with the energy spent every day of the
year, even more than the capital investment, it
made sense only to produce top
quality wines which are recognised as such, and wines that are
typical of us: expressive, with character, and...of course,
perfectible.
In this endless quest for
quality, we are accompanied by someone who is very qualified in
running a vineyard, and who is as keen as we are - Julien SROKA -
and by two oenologists whose reputation in the Bergerac region
is already made: Jean-Marc DOURNEL and Patricia DELAYRE.
The assessment, 8 years after our first grape harvest? The
recognition that we are wine-makers equal to our peers, thanks
to our passion and to our relentless work, Both rewarded by
four gold medals, with the Agricultural Open Competition of
Paris (for our Monbazillac Vendanges de Brumaire 2002 and
2005 and our Côtes de Bergerac 2005 E of Robertie 2003 and
Robertie Haute 2005); and by a
favourable mention in the 2005
Bettane and Desseauve guide to the best wines of France:
“Here is our big discovery of the year, which surely is not one
with local connoisseurs, who inevitably are ahead of us. The
sumptuousness of the bouquet of its dry white and its
Monbazillac show great origins and considerable knowledge.” :
confirmed in the Revue du Vin de France's 2006 and 2007 guide, "Settled
on this property since 1999, Brigitte
and Jean-Philippe Soulier have made a model career. Only five
vintages completed and a perfect illustration of what a wine
worthy of its appellation is. That leaves us in admiration of
the work accomplished. Made with care, wines of the three
colours are ripe, expressive, concentrated in delicacy, without
artifice."
In the Bergerac area, wine makers have taken up the torch of
quality again by renewing the know-how and passion, as
much in the vineyard as in the chai (winery), which give birth
to great wines. We have joined their ranks.
