1610 : This is the date
that the Barde family tree began to burgeon in the commune of Saint
Méard de Gurçon. Since that time succeeding generations have gone to
form the present inheritance.
Here then in the "Perigord Pourpre ". The BARDE family , brothers and
cousins practise the art of wine-making over their 70 hectares of
vineyards, divided up as follows:
-34 ha white wine varieties: Sauvignon , Semillon and Muscadelle.
-36 ha red wine varieties: Merlot , Cabernet Sauvignon , Cabernet
Franc and Malbec grown on wires that are staked in lines.
With a density of 3 300 to 6 500 plants/Ha on hillsides and high
plateau producing high quality grapes. With a good labour force many
things can be done manually including "palissage" ( to tie up the
branches), picking off leaves and removing the excess grapes.
