Château Haut Mayne
Chateau Haut Mayne, situated on the Bonneville plateau in the heart of
the Montravel appellation, in the Pays de Montaigne, has recently been
restructured and expanded; the property has been handed down through
four generations of winemakers.
Surface area: 26 ha
• 17 ha of red grape varieties: 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and
20% Cabernet Franc.
• 9 ha of white grape varieties: 60% Sauvignon, 10% Muscadelle and 30%
Semillon.
The vineyard has traditionally been planted in widely-spaced rows with
a density of 3000 plants/ha although the Montravel red wines have been
planted to a density of 5000 plants/ha.
Terroir
A clay-limestone sub-strata with a clay-silt structure predominantly
composed of compacted alluvium deposits.
Vinification and Aging
The wines are made using modern winemaking methods such as maceration,
racking and temperature-controlled fermentation periods. The wines are
highly aromatic and velvety in the mouth despite their firm structure.
They can be drunk young but will improve with been laid down for a few
years.
