The origins of
the vineyard can be traced back to the 14th century.
We have commercial correspondence dating from 1663 at which
period the Périgord was ravaged by the Wars of Religion (The
Nantes Edict of 1685). Many Protestants from the Bergerac area
emigrated to Holland and established trading links there with
the wines they were accustomed to drinking, in particular,
MONBAZILLAC. Château La
Borderie made up one of
the seventeen recognised and highly reputed DUTCH WINES of the
era.
