La Grande Borie has
31 hectares of vines
including :
• 13 hectares of white
grape varieties : 50-year-old
Sémillon which produces rich, fruity sweet wines with notes of honey
and apricot. The vineyard is situated on the Monbazillac hillsides
on flinty-clay or chalky-clay soil facing south or south-west and
overlooking the Dordogne. The latter factor is responsible for the
specific micro-climate in which the microscopic fungus, Botrytis
Cinerea (or Noble Rot) thrives.
• 15 hectares
of red grape varieties :
40% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc on flinty
clay or sandy soil. South-west facing. The meticulous blend of
these three grape varieties produce the characteristic red fruit,
cherry / strawberry / blackcurrant flavours.
• 2 hectares of white
grape varieties : Sauvignon
used exclusively to make dry white wine in sandy-clay soils.
