St Alvère in the Périgord :
the first truffle market
in France to have gone
on-line !

Historical Buildings
Many of the village houses date from the 14th to the 18th centuries. The most notable are the hospital of the Order of St John of Jerusalem and Clos St Antoine - once a wealthy farm owned by the Davout d’Auerstedt family.

The church square is delightful.

Hiking Trails
An off-shoot or short-cut belonging to the GR6 registered hiking trail crosses the commune, entering to the north from Monsac and heading east towards Beaumont and the GR6.

A 7.5km circuit starting at the village is under preparation. The walk will be flat which is something of a rarity in the area !

Lots of small examples of local heritage can be seen dotted around the commune (roadside crosses, dovecotes,, wash-houses, springs, roof-crests etc.
