The village

The commune of Biron, with its 143 inhabitants, is situated in the canton of Monpazier between the Périgord and the Agenais region.
It is well-known for its 12th and 18th century château which is listed as an Historical Monument. As the headquarters of one the four Périgourdin baronies, the château held a strategically important position between the Périgord and the Agenais. Its history is intertwined with that of one of France’s great families, the Gontaut-Biron family, who owned the château for 800 years.

Between the 12th century of the château’s origins and the later18th-century additions every era has left its mark ; the history of the impressive building is told through its 12th-century tower, two-storied chapel, Renaissance apartments, impressive vaulted kitchens, state room etc.
The amazing juxtaposition of buildings results in an impressive and unusual architectural whole.

A variety of films have been shot on location at Biron and the installations in some of its rooms take the visitor on a travel through time.
