A Brief History of the Commune
A standing stone points to Neolithic man’s presence in the commune.
A 12th century, Romanesque, domed church has a fortified chancel decorated with sculpted capitals. A rectangular, Romanesque keep with a solitary entrance overlooks the village from its height of 15m.

Geographical Situation of the Commune
The Bergerac-Cahors departmental road 660 crosses the commune of Baneuil. The commune consists of 853 hectares of hillside land on the Dordogne River’s right bank, 5km north-west of Lalinde. To the west the boundary is formed by the village of St Capraise de Lalinde and to the north-west by Cause de Clérans.

The commune has a population of 311, 353 in the 2004 census and a surface area of 853 hectares.
