In 1307,
Cardinal de Sourdis, the archbishop of
Bordeaux, bought the fortress of which the
medieval tower is the only remaining
part. It houses the City Hall. Mullioned
windows overhang the finely carved façade
and two pilasters support a capital.
The three levels are topped with
machicolations (projecting parapets)
with openings in the floor that made it
possible to dump projectiles on attackers. |
