Origins

In 1284 Edward I of England founded the
bastide of Fonroque strategically situated
en route to Bergerac. Initially the bastide
was a success but it slowly declined until
by 1365 it counted no more than forty
families.
What
to See
Scarcely anything of the bastide remains,
only the church square still exists to
remind us of the characteristic rectangular
town plan of the bastide.
