The first time
that this installation was put into
operation dates back to 1908. It is located
15 km downstream from Mauzac and is the
oldest of the Massif Central Regional
Hydraulic Production Group.
Up into the 1950s, it worked together with a
coal thermal plant.
Today, the factory, located on the right
bank of the Dordogne, has eight groups
equipped with vertical-axis turbines.
The dam is 19.30 meters high and 105 meters
long. It produces an average of 148GWh per
year.
An interpretation path is open to the public
to discover, among other things, the whole
site.
- The hydro-electric factory
- The fish ladder built in 1989, equipped
with a pane of glass for observation.
In fact, the original fish ladder never
worked, so Electricity of France (EDF) had
to create a lift adapted to migrating fish,
such as salmon, that had disappeared from
the Dordogne with the construction of the
dams.
A tank captures the fish, then rises to
discharge them upstream of the dam.
Thus it is possible for fish to go upstream
to their birthplace to reproduce.
Visitors to the Public Information Centre
and the fish ladder at Tuilières dam: The
Centre is a reception area in which a
permanent exhibition on energy is presented.
It is open Tuesday through Saturday from
9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to
6:00 p.m..
The fish ladder is freely accessible by a
footbridge 24/24 and 7/7. |
