Located at the west of the city, the
fortified 18th century door is a vestige of
the ramparts of the walled town founded in
1272 by Lucas de Thanay on behalf of Edward
1st.
Originally, it was flanked by a square tower
to ensure the defensive system. The
still-visible side grooves allowed the
passage of the portcullis. The door closing
was ensured by a simple wooden bar. |
