Since the 15th century Couze paper mills have built their
reputation on the skills of their Master paper-makers and the
quality of the water.
Couze’s 13 mills each met with different fates in the 20th
century.
Rouzique Mill has rediscovered its past thanks to the
Association for the Preservation of the Old Mills and
Archaeological Heritage of Couze.
It is now open
as the Eco-Museum of Paper and gives the public an opportunity
to discover the history of paper and paper-making over the
centuries. This is, of course, linked to the driving force of
the mill. The working mill produces paper from flax and hemp
using traditional methods.
