Founded in 1984, the Association of Historical Research for the Preservation of Central Dordogne Sites and Traditions (A.R.H.R.V.S.T.) is more colloquially known as «Les Pesqueyroux», the name of a particularly dangerous spot on the river.

The association is concerned with inventorying and preserving the Périgord’s heritage and as such has set itself a huge task given the Périgord’s archaeological richness which ranges from prehistoric times to the industrial era.

Navigation on the Dordogne River and the Lalinde Canal, the history of river transport and local history in general constitute the association’s main areas of research. From 1984 to 1989 “Les Pesqueyroux” organised a series of six exhibitions with local themes and on ‘National Heritage Day’ September 2003 the exhibitions were started up again.
Other projects have included the maintenance or development of local heritage sites such as the restoration of the dry dock at Les Tuilières.
Members of the association participate in many traditional – or quite simply, local – events as well as being involved with other associations and in local politics.
“Les Pesqueyroux” also produce prints and postcards and have published new books and new editions of existing texts.
