Calès lies
mid-way between Bergerac and Sarlat
near the town of Lalinde (with all shops and services) on a
hill overlooking a meander in the river. It is a small, very
quiet although not isolated, village of 300 inhabitants, set
in a rural environment surrounded by woods and farmed fields.
Cales makes an ideal starting point for visiting the
archaeological treasures
of the area, such as Les Eyzies, Lascaux, Proumeyssac etc.,
medieval castles ( Biron, Castelnaud, Les Milandes, Beynac
etc.), museums (of truffles, walnuts, prehistory etc.).
Situated in the
heart of bastide country, you are only a stone’s throw from
the
bastides
of Lalinde, Villefranche and the most famous of them all -
Monpazier (20km).
There are also many listed
villages
such Trémolat (3 km), La Roque Gageac which is carved into the
rock face, Domme and Les Eyzies to name but a few.
An extremely wide range of sporting activities in the vicinity
include long or short walks through the woods or along
registered GR footpaths, mountain-biking, tennis (Badefols 3
Km) horse-riding, canoeing, golf in Belvès (15 km) and fishing.
Possibility of renting bicycles.
For “gourmets” of all kinds, the Périgord is a pure
gastronomic marvel and you will find all sorts of food, from
informal country-style meals to the most elaborate
Michelin-starred restaurant not far from Calès. Everybody here
will compete to help you discover local specialities such as
truffles, foie gras, duck of all kinds, cured sausages,
pastries… and, should you wish to visit a village market
everyday Lalinde, Le Buisson, Bergerac, or Le Bugue will leave
you with delightful memories of the flavours of France. Wine
is everywhere too with the Bergerac, Monbazillac, Pécharmant
and Saussignac appellations next door, and Pomerol, St Emilion,
and Pauillac only an hour away.
The owners live on the property and will be able to give you
further details about these activities during your stay at “La
Ferme d’Antoine”.
